MATH CLUB

Mu Alpha Theta is an organization dedicated to the following:

·         Promote a love of mathematics

·         Develop strong math skills

·         Recognize and encourage students who excel in math

·         Inspire interest in math

Sponsors: Mrs. Valerie Johnson valerie.johnson@cpsb.org and Mr. Jeremiah Johnson jeremiah.johnson@cpsb.org

Meetings: Held after school on Wednesdays in the cafeteria/Room A196

Competitions:  Attend multiple competitions across the state where our students test their math mettle against their peers on Saturdays.  Generally, we compete at Catholic High, Baton Rouge Magnet, Lafayette, Southside, Episcopal Baton Rouge and AMC at McNeese.  The team also competes at the 3-day Louisiana MAO State Convention held in the spring at the Crowne Plaza in Baton Rouge.  We host a fundraising tournament for grades 3-5 called Mighty Mu to offset the cost.

Cost:  $40 for new members and $30 for returning as national dues are paid once.  The cost of each contest is $25, and State is $125 for members who work Mighty Mu.

Activities:  In addition to competitions, we also have an Induction Ceremony, participate in the Homecoming Parade, have a Holiday Party, Scrapbook Party, and an End of the Year Party in the Park.
